Boys Varsity Tennis is looking ahead to an outstanding season with head coach Tyler Philipsen.

Record: The Coronado boys tennis team is looking forward to another strong season this year. Finishing the 2015-2016 season 8-2, the Cougars had a successful first year under the returning Head Coach Tyler Philipsen.

Key players: Entering the the 2016 season key players of the tennis team include James Boehlke, Senior, 9-1, Ashton Rogers, Junior, 6-4, and Spencer Furgerson, Senior, 7-3. Boehlke advanced to state last year in #3 singles, took a single loss last season, and is expected to produce another successful season this fall. Ashton Rogers made his mark last year in #1 singles, and is expected to rise in the rankings this year as a Junior.

Coaching Staff: Joining the coaching staff this year is Mr. Edmund, who is entering the tennis scene after coaching the Cougars to a victory in the 3A State Football Championship in 2013. Returning head coach Tyler Philipsen will also head the Coronado Girls Tennis program in the spring.

Opener: Boys Varsity kicked off their season on Tuesday, August 23, with a rock solid 7-0 win against CSCS, with Ashton Rogers, #1 Singles, winning 6-1, 6-1, Spencer Furgerson, #2 Singles, winning 6-3, 6-0, and James Boehlke winning his match 6-1, 6-1. In #1 Doubles, the new pair Mark Landolfi, Senior, and Reagan Bole, Freshman, teamed up to win 6-1, 6-1.

Home Matches: See Varsity Tennis play on the Coronado tennis courts at 3:45 pm on September 6 vs. Vanguard, September 8 vs. Liberty, September 20 vs. Doherty, and September 22 vs. Pine Creek.
