On Tuesday, September 20, Coronado’s Varsity Soccer team dealt the Widefield Gladiators a crushing defeat of 2-1. This victory is especially significant as it was during homecoming week, and it is so important that Coronado supports the athletes that represent this school.

Ben Gonzalez and Joey Callan, both seniors, scored the two winning goals for the team, and Ben Gonzales was chosen as the Player of the Game for his excellent defense and for scoring the goal that would beat Widefield.

The team’s goalie, Gavin Ruskey, 12, accomplished an impressive 7 saves throughout the game, and the team in total had a number of 26 shots.

According to Mr. Dosh, a Chemistry/Astronomy teacher and varsity soccer coach, “We had an 85% possession of the ball, but we need to work on finishing if we want to win the next game”

The record so far throughout the season is a teeth-grinding number of four wins to four losses. What is next for Coronado Varsity Soccer is is an away game against Liberty this Thursday, September 29, at 5 pm.
