The Coronado women’s swim and dive team fell short against 4A Pike Peak Athletic Conference counterpart Cheyenne Mountain. The Cougars were defeated by a final score of 58 to 219, but not without some great swims.

Sophomore Mia Shaeffer  had two of the team’s best finishes, taking first place in both the 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.34, and the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:22.51. Senior Erica Thompson also had a great meet, coming in at third in the 50 and 100 Free with times of 0:28.80 and 1:04.83. Senior Alyssa Archdale took third in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:19.83.

“We have been working really hard this year. I have been swimming for three years now at Coronado, and this is the year the coaches have really stepped up with the workouts. There aren’t really easy days, we’re just always giving it our all. Our motto is we give 111% 25/8,” said junior Lindsey Murray.

One of the strongest qualities of the girls swim team is the dedication the swimmers have not only to their sport but to their teammates. “This team is becoming more united, mainly because of our amazing captains Aly Archdale and Carsen Fair. It really does feel like a team. We’re all just trying to stick together and stay supportive of one another,” said Lindsay Murray.

Despite coming up short in this meet, the cougars hard work and true dedication shined through.

“Even though everyone had to swim events that were not their favorite, I was very proud of the effort that everyone put forth,” said Mia Shaeffer.

Come show your support for your lady Cougars at their meets! The next home meet is on 12/13 against Liberty. See you there and go Cougars!
