A Loss for Girls Basketball at Castle Rock

On 12/7 at 7 P.M., Coronado’s varsity girls basketball team lost to Douglas County’s Huskies by a score of 59-34. The Cougars’ record so far this season is a still-promising score of 2-3.

Celia Smith, 12, said “as a team we need to communicate and trust each other, and we know we have each others’ backs. If we believe in ourselves, we would be a serious threat to the competition. We need to keep the team positive”

By the end of the first quarter Coronado had scored 9 points, and Douglas County had scored 12, and the trend would continue from there. Second quarter, for Coronado, would be a deficit of 13-10, and third quarter would be 22-5. Then fourth quarter would be 10-22–eventually totaling to 59-34.

“[We need] to improve on working as a team, and [on]little things like rebounds and passes. If we do that, I think we will be a better team, but we are already doing better than last year”, said Alese Abitia, 12, a member of the girl’s basketball team, who has agreed with Celia on their need to work more as a unit.

As the team is still early in their season, there is still time for improvement, and the team definitely expresses an eagerness to better themselves. Make sure to show support for girl’s basketball, who would surely appreciate your spirit, at their next game against Lewis-Palmer December 13 at 7PM.
