The Lady Cougars swim team competed at the 2016-2017 Colorado State Swimming Meet this past weekend in Fort Collins! Seven swimmers qualified this year, competing in 3 relays and 7 individual events.

Three swimmers competed in the maximum four events: Aly Archdale, 12, Mia Shaeffer, 10, and CSCS student Carsen Fair, 12. For the three seniors on the team, Archdale, Fair, and Erica Thompson, the State meet was an exciting finish to their last high school season.

Captain Aly Archdale was part of the 200 yd. medley relay, the 200 yd. freestyle relay, and individually competed in the 50 yd. freestyle, finishing 43rd overall, and the 100 yd. breaststroke. She helped her team advance to finals in the medley and freestyle relays and they finished 15th and 16th, respectively, overall. She said she was “very excited about qualifying individually this year because that has been my goal for the past four years.”

Carsen Fair, also a team captain, had an impressive state meet. She, too, was a part of the medley and freestyle relays, in addition to competing in the 50 yd. freestyle and the 400 yd. freestyle relay, which finished 21st overall.

Erica Thompson finished in 42nd place in the 50 yd. freestyle, and swam a leg  of the 200 yd. freestyle relay, helping the team finish in 16th place.

Mia Shaeffer, 10, one of two lady Cougars to compete in two individual events this year, had exciting finishes in both the 200 yd. IM and the 100 yd freestyle. She made it to the finals and finished an impressive 11th in the 200 free! Only a sophomore, Mia is already one of the better swimmers in the state and is expected to continue improving.

Juniors Lindsey Murray, Morgan Aire, and Chloe Cassens all contributed to the amazing finishes in their respective relays  and are looking forward to competing next year.

Congrats, Cougars!
