This past weekend, the Girls State Swim Meet took place over Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th.

Our team sent eight talented young women to the State Championships. From Coronado, Mia Shaeffer, 10, Chloe Cassens, 11, Abby Smith, 11, Lindsey Murray, 11, Aly Archdale 12, and from Colorado Springs Christian School, Erica Thompson, 12, and Carsen Fair, 12, and Morgan Aire, 12. They sent Aly, Mia, Carsen, and Morgan in the 200 medley. Aly, Mia, Erica, and Carsen in the 200 free relay. Chloe, Lindsey, Morgan, and Carsen in the 400 free relay. Lindsey and Chloe both swam split PRs in their relays. Individually, Aly Archdale qualified in the 100 breast and 50 free. Mia Shaeffer went in the 100 butterfly and the 200 IM and she made it to finals. Carson Fair and Erica Thompson went in the 50 free.

To this tight knit group of girls, the best part of state wasn’t just the swimming. Abby Smith, the team alternate, spoke about watching her friends swim, “it was really fun to watch these amazing girls swim such fast times, but the team bonding was the best part. We got to bond with on a deeper level than we have before”.

For Aly Archdale, she only Coronado Senior on the team, this was her last swim meet and she talked about how much it really meant to her “it was excellent, my favorite part was just getting to be with my lovely juniors and the girls from CSCS.” Lindsey Murray, 11, said “it was saddening to watch the seniors swim their last race”.

For Mia, the youngest of the bunch, this was her second time going to state individually and with a relay, again she talked about how her second state was a “fun experience. It was great to go up there with such a positive group of girls”.

With such a young and talented team, they have great hope for next season. Make sure to tell these girls a great job on a successful season!
