Wednesday, 9/20, was the Cougar Classic Tournament, a home game, for Coronado’s varsity men’s golf team, where the Cougars took 8th place, with players Alexander Cintron, 9, scoring 141 (strokes), Jacob Crandall, 12, shooting a 102, Jack Cintron, 10. shooting a 94, and Andrew Merz, 9, shooting an 86. Andrew Merz, leading the team, placed 7th in the competition, just barely missing medalling The team had a cumulative score of 443 at the tournament.

The conditions of the game were reportedly windy, which was a factor into the team’s performance, but clearly the players could handle the blows.

Crandall says that although it was “a fun game,” the team “could work on form and aim, and with work [they] could be one of the top teams.” For him many of the improvements the team needs “are more mental than physical, like if you make a bad shot, just rolling with it and moving on”

The Cougar Classic Tournament was the second to last golf tournament of the season, and Monday, 9/25, will be the last tournament for Varsity Men’s Golf this season. Go support your fellow athletes, Coronado Cougars, and cheer on the golf team in their last chance to make a mark this year!
