The last week of September brought dark clouds filled to brim with rain and game cancellations. The week of the 25th, all of the softball games got rescheduled due to weather. Despite not facing an opponent for a whole week, our Lady Cougars busted that rust and won against Liberty High School with 15 runs to 9.

Strong defender and Captain, Grace Leahy, 12, partially attributes their win against the Lancers to their team spirit who “stayed pumped and cheering throughout the entire game and we didn’t give up.” She also says their defense played well.

Leahy also recounts the best play of the game to Erica Burkhart, 12, who hit a homerun which brought three more players in. Burkhart had a remarkable .800 batting average which is more than double her normal batting average of .389, which is still impressive. Speaking of hitting, the batting average for the Lady Cougs was an .390, well above the national average.

The very next day our girls faced the Terrors, it was a hard fought loss with a final score of 15-13. Our softball girls are notorious for sneakily stealing bases, this game was their third highest in terms of stolen bases, the team made 13 stolen base attempts and all 13 bases were successfully stolen right under Palmer’s nose.

Neveah Santistevan, 10, had a particularly good game with two home runs! This was her first time doing so and she says that “it was kinda crazy because [she] didn’t think [she] had it in [her]”. Santistevan attributes her fast base running to being on the track team!

Saturday, October 7th is their last game against Rampart at home at 10am come out and watch your girls play one last time!
