After men’s varsity soccer’s 10-0 defeat by Rampart by a score on Thursday, Sep. 19, the team’s season is officially over. With an overall score of 5-10, the team scored a total of 23 goals, with star players Hayden Field, 11, scoring 6, and Edwin Hernandez-Soto, 12, scoring 5. Angelo Taylor, 12, and Kayden Bradley, 11, and Andrew Klein, 11, had a total of 43 goals prevented as goal tender Taylor having 19, Bradley with 17, and Klein with 7. Other players with exceptional performances this season were Cullen Sheperd, 12, who excelled in central defense, and Wes Rubio, 11, in midfield.

Although men’s varsity soccer came short of the results they wanted, Senior Edwin Hernandez-Soto looks back on his final season, saying it was “a good season to end on.”

Hernandez-Soto reports to be proud of the growth and improvement that the team had over the season, saying that “at the beginning, there was no communication. We would just boot out the ball–kick it as far out as we could–rather than pass it to each other, but towards the end, we were combining our strategies and had a better chemistry.”

In response to the team’s record of 5-10, Hernandez-Soto explains that he “felt we were giving up towards the end, and we began to lose our motivation,” and if the team wants to improve next year, the team “must work on communicating more and needs more conditioning because we had conditioning over the summer, but it was in the morning, so people didn’t show because they had jobs.”

Despite the lukewarm season, Coronado soccer players express only their deep admiration for the sport and their desire for further improvement. Remember to support your fellow Cougars with congratulations for finishing out the season with grace and level-heads.
