Cougars Care is one of the plethora clubs that Coronado offers help to students, created “to help meet the tangible needs of students that present themselves every day” (according to the Cougars Care website0. The club was created by Mr. Urban, inspired by conversations among administrators and staff who noticed need within the Coronado Community. Cougars Care is available to anyone who needs help paying class fees, access to a food pantry, school supplies, and so much more.

If you are a student in need, the process of getting help is confidential, safe, and easy. The Cougars Care website reads, “If a student finds himself or herself in need and is unable to pay a class fee, for example, he/she approaches any staff member and requests assistance. An application is filled out in conjunction with that staff member while the staff member verifies the need. Then, the request is submitted to Cougars Care Committee confidentially.” An individual can also go online to apply for assistance if they would rather. Cougars Care generally pays half of what a student needs or askes the “individual to volunteer between 2 to 6 hours in the class or area that he/she is asking for help with”,in order to make sure a student takes ownership of their request, as stated by the website.

For Cougars who want to be involved in Cougars Care’s service to the community, the club meets every Thursday afternoon from 3:05-3:30 P.M. in Room 111.  It is open to all students, staff, and Coronado community members who want to lend their time. Another way to help the club and the community is is by donation, which is also open to any Coronado students.

November is the month of giving because of Thanksgiving, and with that, every year Cougars Care organizes the Harvest of Love, which helps members of the Coronado Community make ends meet during the holiday season. Harvest of Love is taking donations up until Thanksgiving day, you can give your donations to your second-period teacher, or to Mr. Urban in Room 11. Learn more about Harvest of Love here.
