Girls Basketball Stung by Sand Creek Scorpions

Tiffany Jacquez, Staff Writer

Monday, Dec 4, Girl’s Basketball lost to the Sand Creek Scorpions by  a score of 36-58.

Coronado began the game ahead 13-8, where Sand Creek shortly closed that gap by doubling its score to 16 against Coronado’s 10. The next two quarters followed a similar pattern with 6-17 and 9-15.

Star player Fatina Muhammed, 9, scored 19 points, and Marisol Estrada, 11, followed shortly behind with 12.

“Sand Creek was definitely challenging because of the way they were running up and down the court, but I feel that we kept a pretty good pace with them,” says Muhammed.

Muhammed admits that the reason the team lost the game was “we were beat down because of the three back-to-back games Thursday, Friday, and Saturday”

In addition to the team being tired, Muhammed says that “we need to work on talking and communicating on the court, especially when it comes to passing and who is guarding who”

The team’s score so far is a hopeful 2-2. The next game will be a home game Dec 6 against the Douglas County Huskies from Castle Rock. With a dismal score 0-3, Coronado is sure to beat Castle Rock, so make sure to support your fellow cougars at their next game!
