Alena Wroe is a graduating senior at Coronado, who has recently committed to the Air Force Academy after getting the required nomination from representative Doug Lamborn, of Colorado’s 5th congressional district. To get accepted as an officer in the Air Force, Alena had to go through a tenacious process, starting with finding a recruiter and seeking the required nomination. She had to meet multiple physical and mental requirements, such as running the mile run in under 7 minutes and 30 seconds and being in the top 40 percent of her class, as well as getting 3 teacher evaluations from teachers she has had in the past 2 years. Wroe has been preparing for the Air Force since 2014, when she joined the Civil Air Patrol. She joined the Air Force because she “wants to fly”, and has been working at it for a long time, attending camps and getting her private flying license. She also said her family has had an influence, as she has family who have served in both the Air Force and Army. She says “I know what the branches are and what they are about.” Wroe thinks that Coronado has helped her on her journey of being in the Air Force by having so many supportive teachers and counselors to help her. Challenges she faced while becoming a member of the Air Force included balancing her schedule, because she’s a member of cross country and track, vice president of NJHS, and a member of the Civil Air Patrol. When asked if she had any other comments she said “Go Air Force!”
