AVID

Not many people know about AVID and what the point is. AVID stands for “Advancement via Individual Determination.” AVID is designed to help kids with all subjects in every class to prepare kids for college. Their goals are academic success for college and hitting the requirements to be successful. For example, students need to at least get a 2.0 GPA, complete work as needed and prepare for college classes. AVID expects great things from AVID students; for example, they would like students to challenge themselves in high school so they are prepared for the challenges that await them in college. AVID was founded in the 1980s and Ms. Stuckey has been in the AVID program for 8 years at Coronado. Ms. Stuckey says that “I help kids in two ways: keeping them organized and give them confidence in all classes like honors and more to get them ready for college and succeed.” Teachers want their AVID kids to succeed and move on to bigger and better things. Rico Ortiz in 12th grade from Ms. Stuckey’s AVID class says “When I wasn’t in AVID, I was struggling and having a hard time. Now that I am in AVID, I have more motivation.” Marivel Gutierrez in 12th grade says “AVID is clearly motivating, but having support and resources make it the best.” The AVID program has had a positive impact on the AVID students. Dazzia Archuleta in 12th grade says “I have been in AVID for 7 years and it has helped me provide shelter in all my classes and all the tutorials in math and has helped me take better notes to study.” AVID is a program that helps students get ready for the future and to improve skills.
