On Saturday night, the Cougars were prepared to defend home court against the Kadets of Air Academy. Your Cougars were heading into the game with a record of 6-12 on the season, and the Kadets were at a strong 10-8. Both teams looking to push their way into the playoffs, this game was looking like a fun one, and it did not disappoint.

Both teams came to play, and it showed in the first quarter, the score at the end of one being 13-11 Air Academy. In the second quarter, the Kadets outscored 19-14, the score at halftime being 32-25. The Cougars came out rolling in the third, putting up 18 points and allowing 16. The Cougars also outscored the Kadets in the exciting fourth quarter. They scored 26 and allowed 21, and forced overtime. The score at the end of regulation was 69-69. But the Cougars could not get anything going in OT, scoring 5 points in a four minute period, as well as allowing 12. The final score had the Kadets up 7, 81-74.

Both Ladarius Mays and Brycen Scherr had over 20 points, with Ladarius scoring 21 and Brycen putting in 20. Brycen Scherr also lead the way in rebounds, grabbing 13 boards. Bryce Mckee had 4 assists to lead the team. Total, the Cougars were 5-25 from the three, equalling to 20%. They were also 17-27 from the free throw line, which is about 63%, which was a little low for the Cougars.

The game was close, in the end, but due to less than par free throw shooting and maybe some questionable three pointers taken (20%), they ended up losing by seven. We can speculate that with a couple more efficient looks from three, and maybe a few less threes taken, that a seven point loss could have turned into a W for the Cougars.

The next game for the Cougars will be on Tuesday as they take on the Liberty Lancers at Liberty.
