At Coronado High School, graduation rates are more than just points on a graph; they illustrate trends and personal stories, even from recent graduates, and what our counselors have been doing to encourage students to graduate.
Over the past two graduation cycles (2024-2025), the graduation rate at Coronado has been on the rise. Currently, the graduation rate is 85.2%, holding the highest out of all 3 years of the data provided. To understand how this uptrend occurred, we must examine the programs and other resources that Coronado is using or adapting to increase these rates.
This chart demonstrates Coronado High School’s graduation rate from the years 2022-2025. Although Coronado saw a dip in the years 2022-2023, the school was able to recover strongly with its highest percentage year being 2024-2025. With this data, it is presented that Coronado strives to improve its rates even after a dip in percentages. (Addie Bursack)
In an interview with Mr. Crosby, College Counselor at Coronado High School, he stated, “A lot of it is how counselors approach students who are credit deficient, like Connexus and a dropout specialist, which are the primary way that we see our graduation rates increase and what we’re doing to keep it from falling.” With this help, this has been one of the most pivotal factors in helping students graduate and raising the rates.
Mr. Crosby also added, “At Coronado High School, students who attend regularly maintain solid GPAs, and who participate in extracurricular activities are far more likely to, and we often encourage new incoming students to join activities as it puts them in a growth mindset to keep pushing forward.” This provides more insight into the specific strategies counselors at Coronado are taking to help students walk across the stage and raise their percentages.
With students being the main impact on these rates, a Coronado Senior by the name of Yunalesca Walker, Class of 2026, gave some intel on how these programs have helped her. She stated, “I felt like we have really good concurrent enrollment programs, and as a junior who is graduating early, Connexus has really helped me achieve this goal.” It is very impactful on the graduation rates when students are given as many resources as they need to graduate, and it has definitely pushed students to graduate.
A piece of advice that Walker added was,¨Honestly, just focus on your school work and try to take as many extra classes as possible to keep pushing forward.¨
Coronado High School strives to keep students engaged and prepared to graduate in so many different ways. Students overall feel like they have resources and counselors that they can go to for support when hitting a roadblock, and most feel a sense of success on their path forward in high school.
The school’s commitment to student support and engagement continues to play a vital role in keeping graduation rates up, ensuring that it gives every student the chance to succeed and earn their diploma.
