When Donald Trump shared posts that seemed to compare himself to Jesus Christ, it sparked backlash, but his response made it even worse. Instead of clearly explaining the post, Trump claimed the post was meant to “show him as a doctor,” which didn’t match the image at all.
That excuse didn’t make much sense. The post clearly had religious symbolism, not anything related to medicine or a doctor. So when he tried to explain it that way, it came off like he was avoiding responsibility rather than owning what he posted. For someone who has built his image on being direct and confident, that kind of excuse felt weak and out of character.
Mr. Schottler, economics teacher, criticized the post, saying, “Trump always makes promises he can’t keep. His pandering and hypocrisy is very present, and this post is just another example. He swears that he will support Christians and religion, but with this blasphemous post, it is offensive to both religious and non-religious people alike.” His reaction reflects how many people feel about the situation, not just strange, but very disrespectful.
What stands out even more is that some of Trump’s own supporters weren’t defending him. Harrison Aker, a Trump supporter, said, “The post was very weird, and it was very unnecessary. He made it much worse when he lied and told everyone that he was a doctor. That is clearly not true if you just look at the picture.” When supporters start saying things like that, it shows an issue that goes beyond politics to a lack of character.

For a lot of MAGA supporters, Trump’s appeal has always been that he says what he means and sticks by it. But moments like this can most definitely hurt that image. Instead of looking strong, the explanation made him seem like he was lying and dodging the situation. Many supporters aren’t completely turning on him, but there’s clearly a broad loss of respect.
This situation, on top of many other things Trump has said or done, raises a bigger question about accountability. Political leaders don’t have to be perfect, but people expect them to at least be honest when they do something wrong. Trying to lie about the meaning of a post like that after the fact doesn’t fix the issue-it usually just makes it worse. That’s part of why even some loyal supporters lost a lot of respect for him after this.
In the end, this wasn’t just about one post – it was about how he handled it on top of that post. The original image caused controversy, but the excuse he made caused people to be even more upset.
