Coming next year to Coronado is a new class featuring books and movies: From Novel to Film. Taught by English teacher Mrs. Luttman, this semester class goes over techniques found in feature films and has students evaluate whether or not the film has kept the integrity of its novel. The course will follow either dystopian, WWII, Tolkien, or modern fiction literature.
The class will be held in room 255, and is meant to count as a semester of English credit. Due to 9th grade survival skills being removed from next year’s classes, the department chairs were tasked with creating a new class to fill the slot. Mrs. Luttman had the idea for “From Novel to Film,” giving all grades access to the alternative elective.
The vision, according to Mrs. Luttman, is to “start by reading high interest short stories that have also been made into films/movies and then transition into reading a novel before watching the movie.” Although there will be some writing assignments, she plans to “incorporate more visual assignments” such as infographics. Overall this class seems like a well-rounded addition to the Coronado curriculum.
