Mock Trial Regionals

The Mock Trial regional competition will be taking place this Saturday and Sunday (2/4 and 2/5) at the courthouse downtown.

This years team has worked hard preparing and is very excited for this important competition. Unlike last year’s criminal case, this year is a civil trial, complete with fascinating witnesses on both plaintiff and defense.

“Although we’ve had to put in a lot more work than expected with varsity only having half a team this year, its amazing to see the growth we’ve accomplished in half a year alone,” says returning member Sierra Meisner, 10,

The intense weekend will consist of hundreds of matches between teams throughout the entire Pikes Peak region. Every team has a total of 3 matches, using both plaintiff and defense, lasting 1-2 hours each.

This year’s case revolves around an interesting and controversial topic: marijuana. According to the Colorado Mock Trial website, the case revolves around a parent who, “while high on three times the normal maximum dose of THC… [was] dazed and disoriented, and unable to properly watch over his child.” This resulted in the child jumping or falling “from a fourth-floor window of her residence after eating several marijuana edibles packaged like candy. She died from her injuries three days later.”

Sierra Meisner, 10, says, “I feel like…the best thing about mock trial is the competition itself, whether you win or lose it is a great experience!”

If you are interested in criminal law or trials, don’t hesitate to stop by and watch the Cougars compete this weekend!
