Coronado boys swimming has competed in the last of their home meets. The Cougars swam against Liberty on 4/20, the Lancers proved to be fierce competition, swimmers from both schools battling their hardest. One of the stand out performances came from a Liberty swimmer who broke the pool record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.81, shattering the previous record of 1:00.66 set in 1993. Despite this, the Cougars ended the night with a decisive victory of 122 – 63.

The team went on to compete against Rampart, on 4/25, and brought home another victory, 118 points to the Rams’ 62. This brings the team’s total meet record to 4-1, their only loss being a very close meet against Pine Creek. The Cougars have, however, beaten Pine Creek before, at the Cheyenne Mountain Invitational earlier this season. On the team’s strengths, sophomore Andrew Dillindersaid “hype” adding that this season he is “improving a lot, and so is the team as a whole.” The Cougar’s recent success at the Pine Creek High School Eagle Invite seems to reflect that improvement, as they placed second out of 17 teams.

Thus far, the team has qualified bothof it’s divers, juniors Matt Lenz and Talon Turman for state. Other individual qualifiers include Daniel Saks, 12, Alex Spieker, 11, Marley Kaiser,12, Andrew Aire, 10, Randle Burtoft, 10, Adam Austin, 9, Logan Seward, 11, Jackson Sawyer 10, and Nicola Zenarolla, 12. Additionally, swimmers in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 free relay have earned themselves a spot at state.
