The KinDerby, held on March 12,2026, is a district event that brought kindergarten students from feeder elementary schools to local high schools to participate in hands-on activities led by high school students. This year’s event took place in the auxiliary gym where kindergartners rotated through stations and took part in building and racing their own miniature derby cars. The project helps students practice basic STEM skills while showing off what they have learned in the classroom.
According to ACE teacher Mr. Thomas, “The event took about a month to plan and involved multiple departments at both the district and school levels.”
High school volunteers were trained by district staff to lead activity stations and work directly with the kindergarten students. Activities included interactive games, hands-on building challenges, and guiding the younger students through each station, giving high school students leadership experience while creating a positive learning environment for the kindergarten students.
The main goal of the KinDerby is to strengthen connections between students at Bristol, West, Midland, Jackson, Howbert, Chipeta and the community. “The goal was to connect our westside community with one another and strengthen one another,” said Mr. Thomas. The event not only gave kindergarten students a memorable learning experience but also allowed high schools students to serve as role models in their community.
