A well-known teacher around Coronado was named teacher of the year by the Rotary Club: Mr. Kevin Edens. Mr. Edens has taught at numerous schools including Galileo Middle School (3 years), West Middle School (8 years) and Coronado High School (4 years).
Throughout Mr. Edens´s 15 years of teaching, he has never been nominated as a teacher of the year. Mr. Edens said that ¨I think my students nominated me because I’ve always tried to treat them with respect and treat them like human beings instead of just students.¨
When winning, the teacher of year nominees get exclusive rewards. Mr. Edens received $500 which will go towards his teaching, a plaque and a clock from Graff Jewelers.
He also got invited to the Rotary Awards luncheon Friday, May 1st at the Antlers Hotel. He brought his wife and was also allowed to bring his choice of a student, which was Mireyli Acosta, Class of 2026.
