Punch, a baby Japanese Macaque (or also known as a snow monkey), has taken the world by storm as they have been watching his life and progress these past few months. But why?
Born on July 26, 2025, Punch has had to adapt to a somewhat unwelcoming environment. He was abandoned by his mother, causing the zoo keepers to step in and help. The reason for this issue is unclear, but, “sometimes in nature, a mother will abandon a baby if they sense that something is wrong with it (health wise),” Ms. Evans, a biology teacher at Coronado explained.

The zookeepers helped by hand-feeding him milk, supplying him with food and comfort, and most notably providing him with his famous stuffed animal (a monkey of course).
Although he has faced struggle, Punch is thriving now, building relationships with the other monkeys in his enclosure, eating, and standing his ground.
As of March 20, 2026, the latest headlines disclose his current new found love with another female baby. Let’s wish Punch good luck!
