Preparations for the spring musical are underway with the theater teacher, Ms. Glidwell; the choir teacher, Mr. Ferguson; and the band teacher, Mr. Payne, working together to help students put on a good production. All three teachers are in their first year of teaching together at Coroando. Nathan Zook, stage manager of Newsies, explains that Newsies was picked as this season’s production with the goal of “unifying the performing arts department under a common project.”

Newsies is a Disney musical based on the real newsboys’ strike on 1899, complete with live music, singing, and dancing. Mr. Ferguson is working with cast members on their singing numbers. Mr Payne is leading members of Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra to play live from the pit, and live rehearsals are held every day after school as well as on Saturdays.
