College is a key factor in motivating for some of Coronado’s baseball players, while others just want to hang out with their friends, and still others joined the team to be active and healthy.
Regardless of their motivation, losing to Rampart 30-0 had the team’s morale at a low. By the 3rd inning, the team lost their excitement that they had just moments before the game. Thanks to the humbling loss, the team gained a spark and only got better.
The team started utilizing their time for workouts and working on their personal goals as a player. The hitters practice high velocity balls by going to the batting cages and focusing on quality swings. Changing throwing angles and speed helps practice in-game scenarios.

When fixing mechanics, some good workouts that were helpful were bench press, ladder drills, and Z drills. Bench press helped with the strength aspect of the sport. Ladder drills help with speed. Z drills help outfielders’ skills by training the players to be quick and explosive. The best way for most hitters to practice high velocity balls is by going to the batting cages.
One person who is putting in work is Sammy Ramirez, Class of 2029. He is regarded as a very impactful person for the team. Every day, he shows up ready to work, leads in prayers before every game, and sticks up for his teammates. Their seniors have also been stepping up.
Brayden Taylor, Class of 2026, ¨To handle the pressure you just must focus on the ball and the person in front of you handles the pressure by focusing on myself and the game. When I am playing center field, I am constantly thinking of where the ball may go, how many runners are on, and the game´s situation itself
Another aspect that has helped the team come together is being very supportive of each other. Turner Whitney, Class of 2026, said, ¨I will lead my team this season by showing up and being ready to work. I will work my hardest and support my team.¨
The baseball team welcomes all spectators to watch their next game against The Classical Academy at Coronado on April 11th at 2:00 p.m.
