Coronado High School’s Outdoor Science Class recently completed its annual water testing assessment, an assessment that challenges students to apply months of preparation in a real-world scientific setting. This year’s group worked tirelessly throughout the first semester, determined to achieve an excellent score and showcase their skills not only to their teachers but also to the state of Colorado.
In the weeks leading up to the event, students were divided into specialized groups, each responsible for different aspects of the testing process. Some focused on the pH of the samples or the metals they contained, while a few concentrated on recording and interpreting the data. Students quizzed one another, practiced with equipment, and reviewed procedures to ensure they were ready for the long-awaited day.
Marissa Picard, senior and the team’s lead coordinator, played a crucial role in keeping the project organized. Her responsibility was to carefully label samples, record data, and ensure that no detail was overlooked. She stated that “We are all very nervous, but this class knows what we are doing. We’ve practiced for weeks, and I believe we’re ready to show what we’ve learned.” As the results were announced, the class celebrated their excellent score. The achievement reflected not only their hard work but also the spirit of Coronado High School. Ben Knutson, Class of 2026, states, “This class is full of students who love the outdoors and are truly passionate about what we’re doing”
