Imagine walking into a room with brightly colored holds, 60-foot ceilings, and people climbing up the walls and hanging in the air over your head. That is CityROCK. Blue and white walls with murals up the side are littered with climbing holds designating a route up the face of the wall, and ropes hang down from bars on the ceiling, waiting for the next climber. And all over, there are climbers of all walks of life connecting over this shared sport.


Climbing is a sport with a niche but winding history. From the big wall climbers of Yosemite National Park to the boulderers in Garden of the Gods, the sport was once a skill for only the elite outdoorsmen, but has since become a favorite way to people to push their body in a different way. Climbing offers a great full body workout, as well as incorporating mental toughness and bravery – especially if you are scared of heights. CityROCK is Colorado Springs local climbing gym, and a place many people gather to hang out, both with each other and in the air.
At CityROCK, there are many resources offered. Josie, Class of 2027, is a climbing instructor there, and teaches ages []. There are also events to spice up your climbing session – over the Halloween season, there was a Blackout DJ climb, which meant that the lights were out, and only dimmed spotlights and glowsticks guided your way up the route.
